Domestic Abuse Awareness – Training for Employers

Many organisations offer training on domestic abuse, focusing on its impact on victims and survivors, as well as national helplines and agencies. At West Mercia Women’s Aid (WMWA), our approach is different.

As a local charity with over 40 years of experience, we specialise in supporting victims of domestic abuse across West Mercia. Our trained safety advisors assist those in crisis, providing long-term support, safe accommodation, counselling, and peer group programmes. We also support children affected by domestic abuse in their homes. Our local experience informs our training, and our trainers use real-life examples to make the content relatable. This enables us to not only raise awareness but also guide participants to our local services.

Training Options

We offer courses such as Domestic Abuse Awareness for employers, designed to help you understand your responsibilities towards employees who may be experiencing domestic abuse. We can also create bespoke courses for specific needs, like training ‘DA Champions’ within your organisation to be the first point of contact for disclosures or addressing specific situations.

Why Employers Need to Understand

Domestic Abuse

In 2020, the CIPD and the Equality and Human Rights Commission recommended that employers have a clear policy and framework to:

  1. Recognise the problem
  2. Respond appropriately
  3. Provide support
  4. Refer to appropriate help

ACAS also advises employers to support employees experiencing domestic abuse, maintain records, and ensure a duty of care.

Could your organisation respond appropriately if a disclosure was made tomorrow?
